Claudi Monteverdi (1567-1643) is renowned to have written the first opera (Orpheo – 1607). He has introduced many new musical writing techniques mainly the dominant seventh. He has contributed greatly in establishing the grounds of tonal music and is considered the pioneer of musical classicism.
